One of my many memorable Alaskan experiences came when friends invited us to spend 10 days cruising through part of northern southeast Alaska with them. And, the crown jewel of the trip was spending several days with brown bears as they chased and fed on migrating pink salmon. As we perched on a patch of sandy gravel the bears often came close enough to hit them with a baseball had we had one and wanted to. That's also taking into account my weak throwing arm.
I based "Termination" on photos I took of a bear a bit further away feeding on salmon where a falls impeded their upward journey . A fish ladder provides a route to navigate past the falls, but first the fish have to find it without running afoul of a hungry bear.
